The greatest threats to humanity — war and genocide, weapons of mass destruction, ethnic and religious hostility — demand a serious commitment to interdisciplinary research.  The IMPACT Institute research ranges from studies relevant to policy and practice to the definition of fundamental theoretical concepts of peace and justice. The Institute has made substantial contributions to the understanding of ethnic and religious conflict and peacebuilding and the practices of strategic peacebuilding and conflict transformation in the horn of Africa. They have published widely on instruments of nonviolent social and political change, illuminating the dynamics of international institutions and networks that seek to restrain violence and advance human rights and justice. Major research initiatives are underway to strengthen peace processes and peace accords, understand the roots of war and violent conflict, and contribute to the development of democratic and peaceful societies in the horn of Afric
